'We did it ourselves"
WE welcome and seek your ideas

We, The Montford Point Marines must become the Lion and roar our history out to the world. Like the valiant flea that dare eat his breakfast on the lip of a lion. We must do things to be seen and heard, in this media world. The supreme excellence is not to win a hundred victories in a hundred battles. The supreme excellence is to subdue the armies of your enemies without even having to fight them. Expediency is the beginning of disorder, 'We did it ourselves" is our out cry. A distinctive call for change, a working together that works.

The lion in the jungle makes every other animal sit up and take notice as soon as he lets out a roar. He didn't get that way through springs and wires and trick dumbells. He became the king of the jungle through constant natural use of every muscle and brain cell in his body.

In restoring the health of our association, we must reform the way MPMA operates. An ant on the move does more than a sleeping ox.

WE welcome and seek your ideas, but do not bring small ideas; bring big ideas to match our future. Helping others, volunteering, and giving something back improves the lives and the world around you. Its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life.

I know that our association has had good leadership, and Now we move ahead with Leadership that will represent us in the larger world. It doesn't matter if you're, young or old. No matter the nationality, no matter the religion, no matter the ethnic background. We want you to be apart of this winning team.

People in their handling of affairs often fail when they are about to succeed. If one remains as careful at the end as he was at the beginning, there will be no failure.

In thinking, keep to the simple. In conflict, be fair and generous. Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom. Mastering others is strength; mastering yourself is true power.

The wicked leader is he who the people despise. The good leader is he who the people revere. The great leader is he who the people say, 'We did it ourselves.'

James E. Stewart Gold Course in Oklahoma City - Brief Article

Golf Digest, May, 2000

Twenty years ago the Eastern Golf Course in Oklahoma City was a run-down course across the street from the high school with the lowest SAT scores in the country. Closed since 1984 because of racial tensions, the site is now a vibrant First Tee facility called the James E. Stewart Golf Course, under the guidance of junior golf director Walter Hopper.

The James E. Stewart Golf Course

is located on Fredrick Douglas Ave off of N.E. 10th Street, right in the midst of Oklahoma City. The 9-hole 3,105-yard course was opened in 1999 and designed by Randy Heckenkemper. With a rating of 35.5 and Bermuda grass slope rating of 113, it has been considered by many to be the best 9-hole course in Oklahoma City. Mark Galloway serves as the Director of Golf.

Amenities here include a pro shop, snack bar and cart rental. A driving range and putting green are offered as part of practice facilities. The course has teamed up with The First Tee of Oklahoma City in order to increase the popularity of the game and to introduce new players to the game.

Players frequenting the 9-hole James E. Stewart Golf Course in OKC regard it as the perfect place to warm-up for an 18-hole game at the other Oklahoma City courses. Though it is generally considered ideal for beginners, it has a few tough holes for the seasoned players as well. The water that cuts across holes 4, 7 and 8 does pose a challenge. It can therefore be summed up as an affordable yet challenging and a great learners' course.

Neighborhood kids use the range, putting green, short-game area and clubhouse for $2 a visit. During a Tiger Woods junior clinic, May 6-7, local kids will get the chance to hit balls with Tiger, ask him questions and watch him take a single shot for a $1 million hole-in-one to benefit local charities and junior golf programs
